Citizens of Dubrovnik celebrate 1,051st Festivity of Saint Blaise

ZAGREB, 3 Feb (Hina) - The citizens of Dubrovnik on Friday celebrated the 1,051st Festivity of Saint Blaise, their patron, with Mass held outside the city's cathedral and a traditional procession down the Old City streets.

Celebrating Mass, the Archbishop of Sarajevo, Tomo Vukšić, called for praying for an end to the persecution of Christians in the world and respecting man's dignity, and freedom to choose one's faith and publicly confess it.

Today's ceremony was attended by Interior Minister Davor Božinović, Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek as the prime minister's envoy, European Commission Vice President Dubravka Šuica, state and local officials and numerous pilgrims.

The Festivity of Saint Blaise was opened on Thursday and will close on Sunday. It was recognised as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009.
