Author: Snježana Pezer

ZAGREB, 28 Oct (Hina) - The total financial assets of Croatian households amounted to HRK 601 billion at the end of the second quarter of 2022, increasing by 1.2% from the previous quarter and by HRK 38 billion from 2021, the Croatian National Bank (HNB) reported on Friday.

The biggest contribution to the growth of financial assets comes from the growth of cash and deposits, which make up 49.9% of the total financial assets of households.

The financial liabilities of households increased by HRK 164 billion, increasing by 2.4% from the first quarter of 2022.

The financial net worth of the household sector amounted to HRK 437 billion, up 0.8% from Q1 2022. Year on year, it increased by HRK 29.1 billion.

At the end of Q2, the financial assets of the Croatian economy stood at HRK 2,851 billion, or HRK 63.6 billion more than in the previous quarter and HRK 214.3 billion more than in 2021.

At the same time, the financial liabilities of the Croatian economy reached HRK 3,005 billion, up by HRK 53.1 billion from Q1 and by HRK 187.4 billion year-on-year.

In relation to GDP, the financial assets of the Croatian economy at the end of Q2 amounted to 607% of the annual GDP, which is a decrease of 11.2 percentage points in that quarter and a decrease of 48.5 p.p. y-o-y.

At the same time, the financial obligations of the Croatian economy decreased by 14.9 p.p. in Q2 and by 60.7 p.p. y-o-y, reaching 640% of the annual GDP.

This continued the trend of a decrease in both assets and liabilities of the Croatian economy in relation to GDP, which began in the second quarter of 2021 due to a slower increase in their value compared to the quarterly GDP growth.
