This is the result of several months of work on the candidacy which resulted in a document on the development of sports, the sports infrastructure and sports achievements in the county and a recent visit of a high delegation from ACES Europe (European Capitals and Cities of Sport).
During the three-day visit, ACES Europe president Gian Francesco Lupattelli saw the most important sports facilities, fields and events in Osijek-Baranja County, and now official confirmation has arrived that the county has been chosen as the European Sports Region 2024, a press release says.
Anušić underscored that the county is extremely well organised with regard to sports, either amateur or professional, individual or team, and so far it has proven to be a good host for organising large sports events.
We will make good use of the title of the European Sports Region, and in 2024 we will put an even stronger emphasis on building the sports infrastructure, equipping sports fields and raising the quality and training conditions of all athletes, from recreational to professional, Anušić said.
The award ceremony for the title of European Sports Region for 2024 will be held in the European Parliament in Brussels at the beginning of December, according to county authorities.
