JL: Foreign nationals buy 50% more properties in 2021 than in 2020

Author: Vojo Micak

ZAGREB, 27 April (Hina) - Foreign nationals bought 9,514 properties in Croatia in 2021, which is 50 per cent more than in 2020, the Jutarnji List daily has learned from the Croatian Tax Authority.

Last year, Germans purchased 2,637 properties, an increase of 70 per cent from the previous year, followed by Austrians (1,109 properties, +74%) and Slovenians (2,309 properties, +32%), the newspaper said in its Wednesday edition.

Jutarnji List was recently told by real estate agents that the increased interest of foreign nationals in Croatian real estate was one of the causes of the unprecedented rise in prices of new apartments in the last quarter of 2021.

According to the Croatian Bureau of Statistics, purchase prices of new apartments in the fourth quarter of 2021 were 15 per cent higher than in the corresponding period of 2020, and such an increase has not been recorded in the last decade. Average prices of all residential properties sold last year were 7.3 per cent higher than in the previous year, the newspaper said.
