Governor's Palace in Zadar reopens after restoration

Author: Vojo Micak

ZAGREB, 24 April (Hina) - The Providurova Palača, or the Governor's Palace, in the coastal city of Zadar was formally reopened earlier this week after restoration.

Most of the palace, once home to the Governor-General of Venice while the city was under Venetian rule, will serve as an exhibition space and gallery, while a multi-purpose hall will be used for music and film events.

The Governor's Palace and the Duke's Palace, which was restored five years ago, together form an integral complex stretching over 7,000 square metres. Their restoration is one of the largest culture-related projects in Zadar, costing HRK 110 million.

Over HRK 244 million has been invested in the renovation of the city's cultural heritage in the last seven years, with an average EU co-financing rate of 85 per cent.

Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek and Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Nataša Tramišak said that this was a very successful project.

"This is a very successful project and the pride of the entire community, the City of Zadar and Zadar County, which are successful in absorbing EU funding. More than 1,600 EU-funded projects, worth over HRK 3.8 billion, have been carried out here in Zadar County," Tramišak said at the opening ceremony.
