Postal services market sees increase in revenue to €263m

Author: Roberta Mlinarić

ZAGREB, 8 March (Hina) - The Croatian postal market in 2021 recorded 268.5 million services or 11 million fewer than in 2020, but the market revenue grew by 9% to HRK 1.97 billion, show data from the Croatian Regulatory Authority for Network Industries (HAKOM).

The year-on-year rise in revenue was mostly owing to an increase in postal market revenue in Q4 to HRK 544.5 million, which HAKOM says is the highest revenue in a single quarter since it started following the market, 7.8% higher than the Q4 2020 revenue and 14.7% higher than the Q3 2021 revenue.

"The increase in revenue is owing to a larger number of parcel services as well as an increase in the number of other postal services with added value," HAKOM said.

Q4 2021 saw an increase in all segments of the postal services market compared to the previous quarter, considering trends in the past few years.

Q4 2021 saw 68.5 million postal services, a 6.8% increase from Q3, but 5% down from Q4 2020, which is due to the coronavirus pandemic that keeps affecting business operations.

The increase in the total number of postal services in Q4 2021 as against Q3 2021 is owing to an increase in the number of all types of postal items (letters, parcels, printed matter), with parcel services having been constantly growing for the past few quarters.

In late 2021 there were 25 providers of postal services in Croatia, of which the biggest was HP-Croatian Post, with an 87.2% share in the services provided and a 55.2% share in the total revenue.
