The "Proven quality - Croatia" national system for quality agricultural and food products was established to further increase the recognisability and promotion of domestic products, and consumer egg production is the second sector, after fruit growing and Croatian apples, that has recognised the advantage of this system, it was said.
The minister said nine million kilograms of apples and 15 million eggs had been certified.
"Besides guaranteeing full farm to fork traceability, 'Proven quality' is a special designation approved by the European Commission, so producers can finance the certification procedure from the Rural Development Programme."
The designation guarantees superior standards in terms of quality, safety, hygiene and animal wellbeing, she said.
Luneta director Dražen Čurila said the company produced 40 million eggs annually for the domestic market as well as export.
He said everyone should support this, from farmers via the ministry to retail chains, to raise awareness that buyers "are buying eggs made in Croatia and that they are really buying good quality."
Varaždin County deputy prefect Silvija Zagorec said the certification of farm products meant safety for end consumers as well as promotion for the product and the place it came from.
