The opening at European Square was attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, where people could check their health and fitness, including blood pressure and sugar levels as well as the body mass index.
The opening included the Equal Future Race with 50 pupils from grades one to four of Zagreb's elementary schools, including children with intellectual difficulties.
Physical activity is one of the easiest and most beautiful ways of caring for our health, which is the message we are sending here today, said Tourism and Sport Minister Nikolina Brnjac.
Yet the national indicators of our physical activity are not good, which is why we are undertaking activities to enable everyone to engage in physical activity, she added.
The European Week of Sport will include over 120 sporting events across Croatia which the ministry prepared with the help of sport clubs and organisations, schools and associations. It will end with an expert conference called "Towards and healthy and active Europe - Change your lifestyle and start living healthier."
The past six editions of the European Week of Sport comprised more than 165 events involving more than 150,000 citizens.
