The Kosovo-registered bus with 67 passengers and two drivers on board, travelling en route from Frankfurt, Germany to Kosovo, swerved off the motorway at Slavonski Brod, eastern Croatia, at 6.20 am on Sunday, as a result of which nine passengers and the driver who was resting were killed. Forty-four passengers were injured, including 15 seriously.
Kosovo Health Minister Arben Vitia and officials from the Kosovo Embassy in Croatia arrived at the scene to help the injured.
Kosovo Interior Minister Svecla thanked everyone in Croatia for the help they offered to the injured Kosovo citizens, adding that later today some of the passengers would continue their journey to Kosovo and some would return to Germany.
Asked about the return of the bodies of those killed to Kosovo, Svecla said this depended on official protocols in Croatia. Prefect Marušić confirmed that autopsies had been performed on five bodies which had been identified.
Hina learnt that authorities were considering options concerning the transport of the survivors and that one of the options was a charter flight from Croatia to Kosovo.
