Author: Hari Alfeo

ZAGREB, 30 March (Hina) - The coronavirus pandemic has impacted egg exports which in 2020 increased by more than €500,000 (+24%) on the year, while imports dropped by €340,000 (-7.5%), the Croatian Chamber of Commerce said on Tuesday.

In 2020, Croatia exported €2.9 million worth of eggs, including €2.3 million to Austria, €330,000 to Slovenia and €130,000 to Italy, while importing €4.1 million worth, including €2.5 million from Poland, €370,000 from Slovakia and €338,000 from Albania.

Over 600 million chicken eggs were produced at more than 260 registered Croatian farms in 2019, up from HRK 589 million the year before.

More than 50 million a year is produced by the Gala company in Bjelovar, whose director Jakov Ćorić has said that domestic producers are still burdened by structural problems such as low egg prices in comparison with surrounding countries and import at dumping prices.

According to national statistical office data for 2017, about 11 kg of eggs per capita is consumed in Croatia every year.
