"The first volunteers, who have already arrived in Split, have planted more than 500 new trees in the area of Mount Mosor," the local scouts' association said.
The reforestation drive, to be conducted in turns, will cover areas around Split that were consumed by wildfires in recent years.
The young volunteers participating in the reforestation and watering campaign come from Spain, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, North Macedonia, Germany, Montenegro, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Serbia.
This is the second consecutive year that the Scout Association of Croatia and its Split branch have secured money from EU funds for reforestation in the area of Split.
The project is being implemented in cooperation with the Hrvatske Šume forest-management company, the City of Split and Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara, and with the assistance of the Civil Protection Directorate.
