Croats save HRK 479 per month - survey

Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, Oct 28 (Hina) - More than four-fifths of Croats think that saving is important and manage to save 479 kuna a month, according to a survey commissioned by Erste bank.

The survey, conducted in September among 500 respondents, shows that despite the ongoing corona crisis, 83% of the respondents consider saving important, the same percentage as last year.

There are different motives for saving, and 77% of those polled say that one should have financial back-up for unexpected expenses, 21% say they put money aside for old-age provision, while merely four percent say they save for education. Some also manage to make savings for planned purchases, reconstruction or travelling.

The average amount saved per month has risen by 10 kuna since last year. Broken down by gender, men save HRK 513 on average per month, and women HRK 450.

Erste also conducted the same survey in other countries.

Austrians top the ranking with the average amount of € 272 saved per month, 13 euros more than in 2019. Slovaks manage to save €113 per month and Czechs €109.

Croats and Hungarians share the fourth place with an average monthly saving of €63.

Romanians save €59 and Serbs €44 per month.
