Varazdin pastry given EU protected designation of origin

Author: Hari Alfeo

ZAGREB, Oct 6 (Hina) - The Varazdinski Klipic pastry is the 27th Croatian product entered in the register of protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications, the Agriculture Ministry said on Tuesday.

The head of the Varazdin County Tourist Board, Natalija Martincevic, told Hina she was proud this was the fourth autochthonous product from the county to be protected at EU level, after the "Varazdinsko Zelje" cabbage,  "Zagorski puran", turkey from the Croatian Zagorje breed and "Zagorski mlinci", baker’s wares made from fine wheat flour, water and salt, combined to produce a thin sheet of dough.

The European Commission published in the Official Journal of the European Union today that the name Varazdinski Klipic was entered in said register.

The ministry recalled that the process to protect the name began in February 2017.

Martincevic said the pastry was given national protection in October 2017.
