Vladimir Devide, who was born in Zagreb in 1925 and died on 22 August 2010, was a Croatian mathematician and writer, and prominent promoter of Japanese culture in Croatia, particularly haiku poetry.
This unique exhibition of 12 pictures by author Mihovil Rismondo is being supported by the Zagreb Tourism Board (TZGZ) and the Japanese Embassy in Croatia.
The exhibition will promote Zagreb throughout the world particularly among haiku lovers, TZGZ said.
In 1983, Devide was awarded the imperial decoration "Kun Santo Zuiho Sho" (Order of the Holy Treasure of the Third Degree) by Japan for his efforts to promote Japanese culture in Croatia.
"It is with great pleasure that the TZGZ recognised this project which for the first time is transforming Croatia's large advertising areas into a great 'urban gallery' of haiku pictures. The exhibition of 12 haiku pictures on billboards around Zagreb will offer our citizens and visitors true artistic enjoyment while they pass through the city," said TZGZ Director Martina Bienenfeld.
