The ministers exchanged information on the measures and plans to relaunch activities in the sports sector in the short, medium and long terms and to identify the main challenges that that sector expects as well as the possibility of cooperation at the EU level with stakeholders in the field of sports.
The ministers agreed that the main task is to find a way to help the sports sector to once again continue with regular activities and to make it more resilient to possible health crises in the future. The ministers in particular stressed the need that relaunching sports activities must not jeopardise the health of spectators or athletes.
They underlined the need to exchange information and scientific data at the EU level as well as between European sports organisations in an effort to coordinate their actions and provide the necessary support for sports activities to continue as soon as possible.
"The focus during the video conference was on a proactive approach with a view forward so that we can respond to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sports sector and support its recovery," said Druzak.
The ministers welcomed the European Commission's activities, including the flexibility of the Erasmus + Sport programme and future EU programmes also. They support the European Commission's plans to support the sports sector.
