The decision, which refers to reporters, cameramen and photographers, is a result of talks between the HND, the SNH and the Agency for Electronic Media (AEM).
Casual media workers who have been laid off and have not been able to conduct their regular work will be paid an allowance in accordance with the government's job-keeping measures adopted in March.
The HND and the SNH underscored that since the start of the crisis they had advocated for prompter, better and more adequate support to reporters affected by the crisis, suggesting measures to salvage journalism. The organisations added that the ministry's decision is the first step to help the most vulnerable media workers who have been left without any income or work.
