Presenting the donation in Vinkovci, TIKA's coordinating attaché at the Turkish Embassy in Croatia, Hasim Koc, said the latest donation of 200 food parcels for the most vulnerable population was one in a series of donations.
He announced that apart from the packages donated to Vinkovci, an additional 1,100 packages or 19 tonnes of food would be distributed in Karlovac, Gospic, Sisak, Sibenik and Zagreb.
We are currently in the month of Ramadan when we traditionally organise a special event marking the end of our fast, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has affected both Turkey and Croatia, we are not able to organise it so we decided on this humanitarian drive instead, said Koc.
He recalled that TIKA had provided significant aid to the residents of Gunja after they returned to their homes in the wake of the 2014 flood. Then the agency donated in-calf cows and greenhouses.
The head of the Vukovar-Srijem County office for social welfare, Darko Dimic, accepted the donation, recalling that TIKA had for years been sending support for the county and that the latest donation would be distributed to those most in need.
TIKA is an international agency of the Turkish government and is active in 60 countries around the world. It opened an office in Croatia at the Turkish Embassy in Zagreb in March 2016 and it operates with the support and cooperation of local and regional government as well as institutions and ministries.
