Duda calls on Milanovic to help create European medical security mechanism

Author: Roberta Mlinarić

ZAGREB, April 29 (Hina) - Poland's President Andrzej Duda sent a letter to Croatian President Zoran Milanovic, calling on him to join in efforts to create a European mechanism for medical security, implement joint research and make a turnaround in international politics at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

I would like 2020 to be written down in history not just for the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic but also as a milestone in new international politics, President Duda said in his letter to President Milanovic.

He warned that the current crisis had shown that geographical distance, wealth and military power were not the only means to provide efficient protection for citizens and countries.

The Polish president noted that countries can be solidary and cooperate in crises, by donating medical equipment and providing medical assistance.

In the letter, Duda called on his Croatian counterpart to join in efforts to create a European mechanism for medical security that would include coordination of production and distribution of protective medical equipment, as well as the implementation of joint scientific research in the field of biotechnology.

Duda believes that European governments should jointly secure a balanced development of countries and give new impetus to boosting production in Europe.

Europe must again become a great, innovative production workshop, appropriate to the demands of the times, he wrote.

Duda added that international and humanitarian law and the fight against climate change must not be neglected and that he expects actions to build military security.
