Thanks to support from the Arena Centre, 100 tablets worth HRK 120,000 have been secured for Roma children who do not have the necessary equipment to participate in remote schooling in Sisak-Moslavina, Koprivnica-Krizevci, Brod-Posavina and Medjimurje counties, UNICEF Croatia has reported.
With support from the Tele2 telecommunications company, 500 SIM cards with 22 GB of Internet traffic a month have been ensured for children from 52 schools throughout Croatia who do not have access to the Internet during remote learning.
Regina M. Castillo, UNICEF's Representative in Croatia, said that it is very important that as a society we make sure that every child has equal opportunities in times of crisis.
She thanked the partners in assisting to ensure tablets and SIM cards for those children who do not have access to remote learning.
In cooperation with the ministry, UNICEF is also implementing other activities to support education during the coronavirus pandemic.
UNICEF has secured learning material for pre-school children too as well as IT equipment to upgrade the CARNET server to relieve congestion on the net due to online classes.
As part of its national campaign - Together against the coronavirus - UNICEF and donors have secured assistance for the most vulnerable children and families in Croatia to support remote learning, providing psycho-social support, ventilators and protective equipment for medical staff and other professionals who are helping children and their families.
