After a meeting with the Osijek Hospital's management and members of the local civil protection authority Beros said that he had come to Osijek as a sign of support for doctors at the hospital and Director Zeljko Zubcic, who had shown a thought-out approach and prepared the hospital to respond to the epidemic in the best way possible.
Asked to explain how the virus managed to appear in Osijek Hospital, Beros said that it was irrelevant now however doctors always worked in an effort to save lives and that it was not always possible to test patients as soon as they were admitted to the emergency ward.
There are different degrees of urgency regarding medical conditions and in that context there was no negligence in procedures. We sometimes do not have time to wait for test results and that is what happened yesterday in Osijek. I did not notice any negligence and this is a new disease that we do not have any experience with when it comes to preparing the health system, said Beros.
Beros believes that the "situation is not alarming" and that it is "under control" but it is necessary for epidemiologists to limit contacts and that they define the necessary measures for all contacts. He believes that the developments like the events that occurred in Osijek can be put under control.
Currently the number of employees who are in self-isolation will not jeopardise the work of the hospital because employees are organised in teams so if the virus manages to enter a hospital, teams can always be on stand-by, Director Zubcic said.
