State of disaster declared in Bosnia, border with Croatia remains open

Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, March 17 (Hina) - Bosnia and Herzegovina's government on Tuesday declared a state of disaster due to COVID-19, however, the border with Croatia will remain open to traffic.

The crisis management team at the state level will be set up and will be chaired by Security Minister Fahrudin Radoncic.

The Council of Ministers also today confirmed that citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina returning from abroad would be placed in 14-day isolation, and the measure does not refer to diplomats, truck drivers and airplane crews.

Tents for isolation for "returnees" will be set up along the borderline near the border crossings, and the army will be engaged in organising tent settlements.

The country's Prime Minister Zoran Tegeltlija said that quarantine would be organised in compliance with the World Health Organisation's recommendation.

Three tent settlements for quarantined citizens coming back from abroad will be set up along the Bosnia-Croatia border. For the time being there will not be similar settlements along the border with Serbia.

Croatia's nationals can freely cross the Bosnian border provided that they have passports with them. Passports are necessary to make it possible for authorities to track down the movements of travellers and to see where and when they enter or leave Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Shutting down the border with Croatia is not yet being considered.

The latest data released at noon Tuesday show that 26 persons have been diagnosed with coronavirus, 20 of those cases are in and around Banja Luka.
