Author: Snježana Pezer;Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, Jan 17 (Hina) - An increased budget allocation, digitising the model of financing and a new model of support for book publishing were the Culture Ministry's key points in its 2019 report while finalising legislative reforms and cultural programmes during Croatia's presidency of the Council of the EU and Rijeka 2020 are the key priorities for 2020.

Presenting the ministry's annual report for 2019 at a press conference on Friday, Minister Nina Obuljen Korzinek in particular underscored that the ministry's budget increased to HRK 1.345 million following a budget revision. "That is a total of 0.99% (of the rise)," she said, explaining that higher allocations were also due to the better absorption of EU  funds.

The ministry's budget in 2019 was seven percent higher compared to total allocation in 2018. In the period from 2016, when this cabinet was sworn in, to 2019, the budget allocation grew by more than HRK 400 million.

Bill on copyrights being prepared

Amendments to legislation on the ministry's structure and activities has enabled the ministry to take on the task of regulating policies concerning copyrights. A task force coordinated by the State Institute for Intellectual Property, is preparing a bill on copyright in order to harmonise it with the EU's Directive on Copyright in the Digital Single Market, formally the Directive (EU) 2019/790 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 17 April 2019, the national proposal should be put to public consultation in April.

A new bill on electronic media and a bill on artists are being in the pipeline.

Special focus is being placed on the Rijeka - European Capital of Culture 2020 project, which will be launched in two weeks' time, she said.
