Jandrokovic and von der Leyen discussed the main priorities of Croatia's presidency of the Council of the European Union and the programme of parliamentary meetings which will be attended also by many members of the European Commission.
The two officials underscored the importance of Croatia's presidency which comes at a challenging time for the European Union, considering the United Kingdom's exit and numerous other internal and external challenges.
They also emphasised that national parliaments have an important role in the process of adopting European laws and bringing European policies and topics closer to citizens. In that regard, Jandrokovic welcomed the Conference on the Future of Europe and the continuation of intensive dialogue with European citizens. Citizens have to more strongly feel the advantages of membership, improvement in the quality of their lives and the security that belonging to the Union provides, he underscored.
Jandrokovic and von der Leyen expressed their satisfaction with the future cooperation between the Croatian Sabor and other national parliaments with the European Commission on numerous topics of common interest, parliament's press office said.
