All Saints' Day being observed throughout Croatia

Author: Marija Šestan

ZAGREB, Nov 1 (Hina) - On All Saints' Day, which is observed on 1 November and which is a public holiday in Croatia, and on All Souls' Day, 2 November, Croatians pay visit to their loved ones' final resting place and attend masses and other religious services conducted in cemeteries and graveyards.

At the end of October and during the first two days of November locals clean family gravestones, bring flowers and light candles to pay respects to the dead members of their families. It is a holy day of obligation for Catholics.

Also, top state officials and local office-holders hold wreath-laying ceremonies in cemeteries and in front of historical monuments in memory of patriots who have given their lives for the homeland.

Catholic dignitaries say requiem masses at main cemeteries in their dioceses.
