"This Earth Hour, WWF Adria has launched a regional campaign "Get hooked on nature — quit plastics!" WWF Adria said on its web site.
The campaign is conducted in more than 180 countries around the globe and more than 7,500 cities are going dark as well as 2,000 world landmarks.
Croatia once again readily responded to the call to participate in Earth Hour and more than 80 cities will switch off their lights for an hour, WWF Adria's Petra Boic Petrac said.
Some of Croatia's landmarks that will be in the dark include Dubrovnik's Walls, the entire Makarska Riviera, Diocletian's Palace in Split, Pula's Arena, Zagreb's cathedral.
"From the Eiffel Tower to the Sydney Opera House, and the Empire State Building to Burj Khalifa, thousands of landmarks will switch off their lights in solidarity for the planet, to raise awareness about the importance of nature and encourage individuals, businesses and governments worldwide to be a part of the solutions needed to build a healthy, sustainable future – and planet – for all," WWF Adria said on its web site.
