At its plenary session in Strasbourg, the EP adopted a report on an institutional framework agreement between the EU and Switzerland, and Croatian MEP Zeljana Zovko of the HDZ party took part in its drafting as a shadow rapporteur for the European People's Party, proposing an amendment on equal treatment for Croatian workers.
Switzerland and the EU have been negotiating the said agreement since 2014 in an attempt to achieve balanced and efficient application of both existing and future agreements regulating access to the labour market.
Switzerland recently decided to extend the transitional period for workers from Croatia who have thus been denied access to the Swiss labour market until 2021, which is not the case with workers from any other EU member state.
Under that decision, Croatian nationals wishing to work or live in Switzerland for a period of more than three months have to meet strict criteria for a work permit.
