Valentine’s Day spending increases in Croatia - survey

ZAGREB, Feb 11 (Hina) - The spending by Croatian consumers on gift shopping ahead and during the Valentine's Day increased from 2016 to 2018 by 55%, while the purchase of flowers soared by 72% and jewelry sales climbed by 76%, according to a study conducted by Mastercard Love Index.

The findings of the study, which analyses credit, debit and prepaid transactions during the Valentine’s period, show that the Croatians seem to prefer experiences over material goods, for instance they prefer spending on dinners in restaurants to buying gifts.

Thus, the spending on dining out increased by 34% in the said period and spending on stays in hotels climbed by 48%.

The card transactions for buying gifts have increased by 45%.
