The victims were believed to be trafficked and forced by Chinese-run criminal gangs into luring people into scams with fraudulent calls and text messages, according to secretary of Thai Defense Minister General Traisak Intarassamee. The Thai prime minister said at least 7,000 multinational victims have been rescued from call center scammer crime syndicates operating in Myanmar and are expected to be brought to Thailand after the Thai government cut off the cross border electricity, internet and oil to five areas in Myanmar to crack down the call center scammer networks.
