Afghan students associated with medical studies faced a devastating setback when the Taliban imposed a ban on female medical education, leading to their dismissal from private schools and hospitals where they are practicing as residents to gain practical experience. The Taliban's recent ban on midwifery and nursing studies in Afghanistan has significantly limited women's access to professional training and jeopardized their healthcare, as cultural norms forbid male doctors from treating them. With around 35,000 women studying medicine before the ban, the closure of these programs poses significant risks to women's health in a country with one of the highest maternal mortality rates globally.
