Foto: SERGEY DOLZHENKO

epa11732724 Ukrainians lay flowers and light candles amidst snowfall at the memorial to the 'Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred', for the activists killed during the Euromaidan-protests in 2014, near the Independence Square in Kyiv, Ukraine, 21 November 2024, amid ongoing Russian invasion. Ukrainians on 21 November commemorate the 'Day of Dignity and Freedom' and the anniversary of the 'Maidan Revolution', or Ukraine's Revolution of Dignity. On 21 November 2013, activists started an anti-government picket after then-Prime Minister Mykola Azarov announced the suspension of a landmark treaty with the European Union. The protests eventually led to the ouster of then-President Viktor Yanukovych, creating political rifts throughout the country that erupted into a violent conflict between pro-Russian separatists and government forces in the eastern part of the country in the spring of 2014. Russian troops entered Ukraine on 24 February 2022 starting a conflict that has provoked destruction and a humanitarian crisis. EPA/SERGEY DOLZHENKO
