The Punjab government has declared a health emergency in Lahore and Multan due to severe smog, with Lahore ranked as the most polluted city globally and Multan the worst in Pakistan, according to IQ Air. In response to the hazardous air quality, Senior Minister for Information and Environment Protection Marriyum Aurangzeb on 15 November announced an extension of school closures for another week, while colleges and universities will transition to online classes to protect students' health. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed a nationwide observance of Salat al-Istisqa, a special prayer for rain, in response to health concerns and rising smog from ongoing drought conditions. The Ministry of Religious Affairs has issued a circular urging mosque Imams and the public to participate in these prayers across all provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. EPA/A. HUSSAIN
