The traditional slingshot called 'Leenda', which used to be a weapon in the past, is nowadays used by some farmers to protect their crops from birds, but it is also a popular activity among children and teenagers in the KPK region. There are multiple shops in Dabgari Bazaar where artists craft colorful, handcrafted slingshots reflecting the rich local art tradition. Despite newer alternatives being significantly more popular with the public, old slingshots still retain their artistic and cultural significance, according to slingshot makers. 'We have been manufacturing slingshots for ages. I have been in this business for the last 44 years. This is a seasoned industry. Mostly, when the wheat crop ripens, farmers buy slingshots to distract birds from their crops, and children also love to play with them’, says slingshot manufacturer Nimat Ullah.
