Zagreb mayor visits Lisbon, Zagreb's twin city

ZAGREB, July 11 (Hina) - The Mayor of Zagreb, Milan Bandic, met with the Mayor of Lisbon, Fernando Medina, in the Portuguese capital on Tuesday and signed a memorandum of understanding marking 40 years of friendship between the two cities.

The memorandum is a continuation of the agreement of 1977 and a confirmation of good relations and aims to reinforce the cooperation in the economy, innovation, urban development, culture and tourism, Bandic's office said in a press release.

Bandic invited Medina to visit Zagreb, which he gladly accepted. The mayor of Zagreb wrote in the Golden Book of the City of Lisbon, in which prominent guests visiting the city write their impressions: "I very much look forward to our joint projects and future meetings with which we will further strengthen our relations and enhance our cooperation."

The signing ceremony was attended by Croatia's Ambassador to Portugal, Ivica Maricic, Portugal's Ambassador to Croatia, Jorge Silva Lopes, and the first Portuguese Ambassador to Croatia, Ana Hidalgo.

The 40th anniversary of friendship between the two cities will be formally marked on Tuesday evening by a concert of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra outside the Sao Carlos National Theatre as part of the Ao Largo summer festival.

The concert will mark the beginning of a cultural exchange between the two cities, which will include a concert of fado music in Zagreb's Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall on November 15, an exhibition of photographs from the Zagreb City Museum and an exhibition of paintings by Vatroslav Kulis in the Cochia National Museum from October 24 to November 30.
