ISABS conference shows Croatia is competitive business destination, minister says

ZAGREB, June 19 (Hina) - Organising one of the most important scientific conferences on biomedicine this year, with several Nobel winners attending, is proof that Croatia can be a competitive business and congress destination globally, Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli said in Dubrovnik on Monday.

He was speaking at the Tenth ISABS  (International Society for Applied Biological Sciences) Conference on Forensic and Anthropologic Genetics and Mayo Clinic Lectures in Individualized Medicine, which was opened by Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.

The conference is taking place on June 19-24 and has brought together over 500 participants from 40 countries, including Nobel winners Harald zur Hausen of the University of Heildeberg, Ada Yonath of the Weizmann Institute of Science) and Robert Huber of the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry.

"This gathering of scientists from all over the world, and this year's biggest gathering of Nobel winners in Europe, will show views of the development of biomedicine in the 22nd century and, aside from positioning Croatia on global science maps, it will have numerous positive effects on Croatia's tourism as well as its recognition as a country of knowledge and health," said Cappelli.

The conference was organised in cooperation with the US Mayo Clinic, George Washington University, Penn State University, University of New Haven, Unfallkrankenhaus-Berlin, Regiomed Hospitals, and numerous Croatian science and health institutions.
