Vienna best place to live in, Zagreb 98th

ZAGREB, March 19 (Hina) - The Austrian capital of Vienna is the best city in the world for quality of life, and Zagreb ranks 98th, according to an international survey conducted by the U.S. Mercer company.

Mercer's 19th annual Quality of Living survey covers 231 cities, and Vienna occupies first place for overall quality of living for the 8th year running, while Baghdad is again seen as the worst place.

The quality of life in those 231 cities is measured by some 40 factors including political stability, infrastructure, health care, education, crime rate, sport and leisure, culture, environment, etc.

Zurich is in second place, followed by Munich (4), Duesseldorf (6), Frankfurt (7), Geneva (8), Copenhagen (9), and Basel, a newcomer to the list, which is in 10th place. The only non-European cities in the top ten are Auckland (3) and Vancouver (5). The highest ranking cities in Asia and Latin America are Singapore (25) and Montevideo (79), respectively, Mercer reports.

Croatia's capital has been in 98th place for the second year.

"In 69th place, Prague is the highest ranking city in Central and Eastern Europe, followed by Ljubljana (76) and Budapest (78)," according to Mercer.

Ranking lowest across Europe are Sarajevo (171) and Tirana (188).

Singapore fares the best among cities in Asia, and ranks first for city infrastructure.

The five worst cities for the quality of life are Khartoum (Sudan), Port au Prince (Haiti), Sana'a (Yemen), Bangui (the Central African Republic) and Baghdad (Iraq).
