Croatia's textile industry sees workforce and investment halved in 10 years

ZAGREB, March 9 (Hina) - The Croatian textile industry saw its workforce and investment halved in the period from 2005 to 2015 as some companies ceased operating and many downsized their workforces, data from the Financial Agency (FINA) show.

During the 2005-2015 period the number of employees in textile companies fell by 57.3%, from 7,604 in 2005 to 3,245 in 2015.

Textile companies generated the highest profit, of HRK 137 million, in 2015, which was 107% higher than in 2010 and 41.4% higher than in 2005. The largest loss, of HRK 9.4 million, was recorded in 2005, compared to a loss of HRK 90.46 million in 2010 and of HRK 17.78 million in 2015.

A total of 256 textile companies operated in 2015, of which 69.9% operated at a profit and 30.1% at a loss. The largest number of companies, 262, operated in 2015, of which 69.1% generated profits and 30.9% losses.

Textile companies ended 2015 with a total net profit of HRK 119.3 million. Investment in new long-term assets amounted to HRK 122.6 million in 2005 and to HRK 67.2 million in 2015, down by 45%.

The average net monthly wage in the textile industry was HRK 3,506 in 2015, which was 35.9% higher than in 2005 and 30.1% lower than the average wage in other industries in Croatia (HRK 5,019).
