Filming of "Robin Hood: Origins" starts in Dubrovnik

ZAGREB, Feb 18 (Hina) - Otto Bathurst, director of "Robin Hood: Origins", to be filmed in Dubrovnik over the next two weeks, said at a news conference on Saturday that he had chosen Dubrovnik as the setting of the film because of the openness of the city authorities and locals to cooperation.

This is the first film of a trilogy that will briefly convert Dubrovnik into medieval Nottingham.

Bathurst, who held the news conference with Croatian Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Korzinek and Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli, thanked the Culture Ministry for financial incentives for his film.

Obuljen Korzinek recalled that Croatia introduced incentives for film and TV projects in 2011 and that 20% of a film's local costs was returned to its producers.

"So far around HRK 400 million has been invested in Croatia, and around HRK 60 million has been returned," she said, stressing that everything involving film productions was being done in line with the highest standards and in consultation with the Culture Ministry and conservators.

Tourism Minister Cappelli said that the start of the filming of "Robin Hood: Origins" in Dubrovnik meant that the tourist season had begun.

"The film industry is an important segment of tourism as a product that is offered throughout the year," he said.

Actors Jamie Foxx and Jamie Dornan, who have roles in the movie, have already arrived in Dubrovnik.

The role of Robin Hood is played by Welsh actor Taron Egerton.

The film's budget is estimated at US$ 90 million and an additional 100 million is to be invested in its promotion and marketing activities.
