Unfortunately, according to some estimates, Croatia's milk production last year fell below 500 million tonnes, that is, 490 million tonnes, although the EU milk package is yielding results at the EU level, the Croatian minister said.
The milk package report covers market developments, assessing its effects on milk producers and milk production in less-favoured regions. The milk package has been in force since October 2012 and will continue to apply until 30 June 2020.
"Croatia is lagging behind. We haven't yet introduced compulsory contracts between producers and processors, and our producer organisations are still weak and we must make them stronger," Tolusic said, adding that his ministry at whose helm he has been since last October is working on that.
I hope that all those measures lead to an increase in production, he said.
