WWII victims of communist crimes buried in Maribor

ZAGREB, Oct 27 (Hina) - A commemoration for the victims of communist crimes exhumed at Huda Jama, Slovenia ended on Thursday with their burial at the war victims' memorial park Dobrava in Maribor, with Croatian and Slovenian state leaders attending.

The remains of 778 victims, including hundreds of Croats, exhumed so far from the Huda Jama mass grave were transferred to Dobrava and placed in a common grave. Among those in attendance were Croatia's Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, Parliament Speaker Bozo Petrov, Foreign Minister Davor Ivo Stier and a number of MPs, including former culture minister Zlatko Hasanbegovic of the Croatian Democratic Union party.

Hasanbegovic said Slovenian and especially Croatian authorities had not done enough so far "to shed light on these crimes. It is our political obligation to do everything for the truth to be established, for all burial sites to be found and marked in a dignified manner."

"It is our rational duty as humans and statesmen to bury the victims of war and post-war executions in a civilised way. With that, we are not changing history, but will only change our future," said Slovenian President Borut Pahor.
