Int'l conference on Croatian writer Ivana Brlic-Mazuranic starts in Zagreb

ZAGREB, Oct 13 (Hina) - The international conference "A Century of Croatian Tales of Long Ago", dedicated to Croatia's greatest children's author Ivana Brlic-Mazuranic, opened at the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) in Zagreb on Wednesday.

The event, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the publication of Brlic-Mazuranic's famous collection of short stories, considered by many to be her most important work, is being held under the auspices of President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.

Around 150 speakers from 18 countries will address the four-day event on the topic of Croatia's most translated literary collection.

The head of the organising committee, Andrijana Kos-Lajtman, recalled that Brlic-Mazuranic had been nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature four times.

Brlic-Mazuranic was also the first woman to join HAZU in 1937, HAZU president Zvonimir Kusic said.
