Mufti: Trust obliges politicians to work on homogenisation

ZAGREB, Sept 12 (Hina) - The head of the Islamic Community in Croatia, Mufti Aziz Hasanovic, has called on elected members of the Croatian parliament and on the future government to work on the homogenisation of society.

In his sermon on the occasion of Kurban Bairam (Eid ul-Adha) on Monday in the mosque in Rijeka, Mufti Hasanovic urged those who won the trust of voters in Sunday's early parliamentary election to ensure jobs, salaries and access to public healthcare and education as well as to work on homogenisation and not on polarisation of society.

The dignitary said that religious communities were partners to the state in an effort to reinforce moral, social, family and civilisation values and that this was one of the missions of the Islamic Community in Croatia.

"The model of the arrangement of the relations between the Islamic community and the Croatian government is becoming more and more recognisable and sought-after in Europe and worldwide," Hasanovic said adding that this is why Croatia is placed among the countries with high standards in how to regulate relations with religious communities.

Regarding the migrant crisis and the developments in the Middle East, Iraq and Afghanistan, Hasanovic said Muslim believers worldwide were utterly concerned about the horrendous events in the said regions.

He said that nobody could ignore the sufferings of people in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and other countries. He also raised his voice against the abuse of Islam in terror attacks.

As for the refugee crisis, Hasanovic praised the conduct of Pope Francis and also called on world stakeholders to see if they had done enough to prevent events that resulted in refugee tides. He called for making a difference between those who are in true trouble and those who take advantage of the hospitality to pursue their private interests.

Hasanovic said he was sad to see some European politicians resort to the anti-Islamic rhetoric for petty political interests.
