Bosnia endorses SAA alignment on traditional trade

ZAGREB, June 14 (Hina) - The Bosnian Council of Ministers in Sarajevo on Tuesday endorsed a report on the completion of negotiations on the alignment of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) on traditional trade, on which Croatia insisted and which is one of the European Union's conditions for granting Bosnia and Herzegovina's request for membership candidate status.

The ministers sent the report to the Bosnian Presidency for approval.

Alongside a mechanism for coordinating European affairs, the alignment of the SAA is the key prerequisite for winning EU membership candidate status.

An interim trade agreement between Bosnia and the EU is part of the SAA, which was signed in 2008. When it joined the EU in mid-2013, Croatia became entitled to the duty free export of its goods to Bosnia. For nearly two and a half years, Bosnian authorities refused to negotiate the alignment, but the European Commission made the settlement of this issue conditional on Bosnia's progress towards EU membership.
