The new pier will enable the arrivals and departures of hydroplanes with up to 19 passenger seats from and to Split, Novalja on the island of Pag and Rab.
The European Coastal Airlines, established in 2000, operates these services. The company's seaplanes connect several towns and cities along the Croatian coast and it organises flights to Ancona and Pescara, Italy, too.
Attending the red-ribbon-cutting ceremony, Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel said that Rijeka was now provided with an airport in the centre of the city.
