Split holds sixth Pride march

ZAGREB, June 4 (Hina) - The sixth Split Pride was held in the Adriatic city of Split on Saturday, drawing about 200 participants, according to police estimates.

The march was organised by the Flomaster and Rispet associations.

Anja Posavec of Flomaster said this year's Split Pride was dedicated to all who felt discriminated against and disenfranchised by the very fact that they did not belong to the loud majority. She said no reported case of violence against LGBT persons in the six years since the first Split Pride had been solved and that by not doing their job, institutions augmented the atmosphere of homophobia and fear.

Mayor Ivo Baldasar also marched, saying, "We are here to protect the right to human rights. That's our duty."

There were no incidents.

Sanja Juras of the Kontra association said they were marching for freedom, freedom of thought, of speech, to love and be themselves, for the right to live a dignified life and have full rights. "Many incidents go unreported and those that are, are not solved because institutions which should be solving them are homophobic."

Organisers said Pride was a day of solidarity and that they did not accept violence and a society in which freedoms and rights were suppressed.
