Talgo trains to start running between Sarajevo and Zagreb soon

ZAGREB, May 11, (Hina) - The railway operator in Bosnia and Herzegovina's Croat-Bosniak federation will soon introduce high-speed Talgo trains to run between the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo and the Croatian capital of Zagreb, the operator's executive director, Rifat Cabric told the local media.

Talgo technicians are already in Sarajevo to check the trains before putting them into operation, Cabric said, explaining that Croatia has already given its green-light to the introduction of this type of Spanish trains.

Talgo trains are likely to start connecting Sarajevo and Zagreb in two months' time.

Currently, a journey by train between the two cities takes up to 10 hours.

The operator plans to introduce this type of trains also along the rail-line from Sarajevo to Croatia's seaport of Ploce as soon as passenger transport by train is restored on this route.

Bosnian railways purchased the trains for a price of 132 million convertible marks (67.5 million euro) with a loan concluded in 2005. Talgo delivered the wagons in 2010 however they have still not been put to use which was usually explained due to technical reasons.
