Mine removal specialists protest against low wages

ZAGREB, May 11 (Hina) - About 300 mine removal specialists on Wednesday held a protest march from Zagreb's main square Trg Bana Jelacica to St Mark's Square where government headquarters are located, to warn about a very low pay per hour they receive.

The protesters insisted on talks with top state officials including Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic.

The disgruntled deminers  were carrying banners saying "Grass mowing 10 kuna per square metre, mine removal 2.68 kuna per square metre", "Become a mine removal specialist - the highest risk for the lowest pay".

After many companies specialised in mine removal went under, employees in those firms have been out of work, and the supply of such professionals on the market has made their wages very low, protesters explained, demanding the government exempt this activity from market competition.
