Croatian president wraps up visit to UN

ZAGREB, April 23, 2016 (Hina) - Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic on Friday wrapped up her official visit to the United Nations in New York where she was one of 175 world leaders who signed the Paris Agreement to combat climate change, the Office of Croatian President said in a press release.

During her stay in the World Organisation's headquarters, President Grabar-Kitarovic met Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the talks on development of bilateral relations.

On the margins of the Thematic Debate on Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals at the UN General Assembly in New York on Thursday, President Grabar-Kitarovic held a bilateral meeting with the President of Hungary, Janos Ader.

"On that occasion, the two Presidents confirmed their planned meeting in September, at the celebration of the 450th Anniversary of the Battle of Szigetvar. They also discussed the importance of transport corridors, both road and railway, including the Budapest-Zagreb-Rijeka railway line. In the field of energy, their discussion focused on the LNG terminal on the island of Krk, the gas pipeline and the situation of INA-MOL. During the meeting, they discussed the Adriatic-Baltic-Black Sea Initiative in the context of transport and energy infrastructure and development of digital networks. The two Presidents confirmed the importance of making additional efforts to strengthen the strategic partnership between Croatia and Hungary," according to the Office of Croatian President.

The Croatian head of state met Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Jan Eliasson, for talks on the work of International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
