Minister announces bill on land for tourism purposes by year's end

ZAGREB, April 22 (Hina) -  A bill on land for tourism purposes should be prepared by the year's end, Tourism Minister Anton Kliman said on Friday in Funtana in Istria County, where he was attending a meeting of the Croatian Camping Union (KUH).

"I believe that a bill will be prepared by the end of the year and KUH representatives will be involved in writing the bill," Kliman said.

According to Kliman, a new investment cycle in the camping sector is expected to start then as well, as it accounts for 25% of Croatia's tourism.

"Our competitors in that regard are moving ahead with huge steps. We, unfortunately, because of the law, cannot keep up with our competitors. However, once we resolve this question, then we will be able to catch up with them, because we have better conditions than our competitors to develop camping tourism," Kliman said.

KUH President Tihomir Nikolas said that he was pleased with the talks with Minister Kliman and assessed them as "substantial and concrete."

Croatia has 271 camp sites with a total capacity of 237,800 beds. Last year 2.6 million tourism arrivals to camps were recorded, which is an increase of 5% in comparison with 2014, while the number of overnight stays grew by 3.9% to 17.2 million, which accounts for 24% of all overnight stays in the country.

Visitors on average spent 6.7 nights in camps around the country.
