More than 70% of students want to work abroad

ZAGREB, April 3 (Hina) - As many as 70.8% of 716 students covered by a recent survey said they would try to find a job outside Croatia because they believed that abroad their chances of having a good life were greater.

The survey, focusing on employability and the connection between the labour market and higher education, was conducted in March by the Croatian Student Council.

As regards satisfaction with information about the labour maret, 67% of the respondents said students should be provided with much more information about the labour market and that the business sector should become more involved in creating educational policies as well as in the education process itself.

The Council considers as extremely worrying the fact that close to 71% of the respondents plan to try to find work abroad.

As many as 35.3% of the respondents gave the connection between the labour market and higher education a barely passing grade, while as many as 27.3% said the labour market and higher education were not connected in any way.

Council president Karlo Kolesar said that in light of those statistics, the Council would soon, in cooperation with the Labour and Pension System Ministry, the Croatian Employers Association, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce and the Institution for Education Development, present its model for dealing with that burning issue.

The Student Council represents more than 35,000 students of public and private institutions of higher education.
