PM Oreskovic signs book of condolences; Belgian ambassador says touched

ZAGREB, March 24 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic on Thursday signed a book of condolences at the Belgian Ambassador's residence in Zagreb in memory of the victims of Tuesday's terrorist attacks in Brussels, with Ambassador Philippe Benoit saying that he was touched by the support and sympathy of the Croatian people.

"This act of terrorism was not only an attack on the Belgian people but on all who share the same values and principles. We stay united and will not allow terrorism to destroy what is dear to us," Oreskovic wrote in the book among other things.

Ambassador Benoit said he was very touched by the numerous messages of support and sympathy his embassy had been receiving and expressed gratitude to the Croatian authorities and people.

According to the latest reports, at least 31 people were killed and around 300 were wounded in the terrorist attacks in Brussels, which Ambassador Benoit called a horrible tragedy.

The target was not only Belgium and Brussels, Brussels was attacked as a political symbol and it was an attack on Europe, democracy, our values and our way of life, Benoit stressed.

He added that the book of condolences would be open for Croatian citizens at the Belgian Embassy in Zagreb from 10 am until noon on Friday.
